Inspire Education Group (IEG), comprising of Stamford College, Peterborough College and University Centre Peterborough (UCP), is proud to celebrate its working relationship with apprenticeship partner, EML Electrical. Having recently been titled ‘SME Employer of the Year’ at the Peterborough Telegraph Apprenticeship Awards 2023, EML stands as an exemplary employer, in our collaborative approach to shaping the future of the local workforce.

EML Electrical’s professional contractors operate across mainland UK, facilitating industrial and commercial electrical services, such as the installation of business management control systems and electric vehicle charging ports. Employing 35 members of staff, employee satisfaction is at the heart of their business practises, with the understanding that their happiness ultimately translates to satisfied clients.

Recognising the industry’s labour shortage, EML Electrical were motivated to nurture young talent, offering hands-on learning experiences to local students seeking an exciting career in electrical installation. “The labour problem has been getting worse over the years, and we want to be part of the solution”, Mark Brear, Director of EML shared. “For us, it’s very rewarding to see the apprentices learn and develop. We’re keen to keep hiring, and want to be known as the place to come for an apprenticeship!”.

“Over the past four years, EML has developed a great relationship with Inspire Education Group”, Mark commented. “As we’ve taken on more apprentices, our relationship has progressed. Any challenges we’ve faced along the way have been dealt with quickly, because our working relationship runs so smoothly”. Gary McParland, Assistant Principal of Curriculum Study Programmes and T Levels at IEG, emulated this, sharing, “EML’s dedication to the apprenticeship journey aligns seamlessly with Inspire Education Group’s mission, to ‘transform lives through inspirational education and training’, creating a synergy that enhances learning experiences and empowers students to thrive in their chosen fields. We look forward to what the future holds”.

When asked what advice he would give to other employers considering hiring an apprentice, Mark shared, “Take time to engage with the accrediting college, as you can’t support your apprentices without a positive relationship with the provider. A good apprentice makes for a good business, and will enable the continued success of EML Electrical well into the future”.
