Inspire Education Group’s Group Director of Apprenticeships and Employer Engagement, James Whybrow, attended a House of Commons roundtable this week to discuss the development of green skills in Peterborough to support the UK’s clean energy mission.
The invitation, extended by Jake Tudge and National Gas alongside Andrew Pakes MP, brought together education leaders, sector representatives and industry bodies to explore how the region can accelerate workforce development in clean energy and sustainable industries.
The discussion focused on shaping curriculum design to meet emerging industry needs, promoting opportunities across the clean energy supply chain, removing barriers to entry for new talent, and strengthening advocacy for the sector both locally and nationally.
James represented Inspire Education Group and showcased the work being delivered through the Centre for Green Technology, highlighting how IEG is supporting learners to develop the skills required for low-carbon industries and future-focused careers.
The roundtable also included contributions from Professor Ross Renton (ARU Peterborough), Tasha Dalton (City College Peterborough), and representatives from Make UK, Skills England and Hydrogen UK, demonstrating a united commitment to strengthening Peterborough’s education and skills ecosystem.
A key highlight of the session was hearing directly from National Gas apprentices, who shared their career journeys and experiences in the sector, reinforcing the transformative impact of apprenticeship pathways within green industries.
The visit reflects IEG’s ongoing commitment to working in partnership with employers, policymakers and education providers to support economic growth and deliver the skills required for the future workforce.
