IEG Celebrate Green Careers Week, Supporting the Future Green Workforce

Inspire Education Group (IEG) is proud to celebrate Green Careers Week, a national initiative that promotes green skills, diversity, and real career opportunities in industries contributing to sustainability. As part of IEG's commitment to building the future workforce, we are leading the charge in developing green careers through our three institutions: Peterborough College, Stamford College, and University Centre Peterborough.

At Peterborough College, we are investing in the future with the construction of the Centre for Green Technology (CGT), a state-of-the-art facility that will provide hands-on training for students in green sectors like construction, engineering, and renewable energy. This investment aligns with the UK government’s 2050 net-zero target and will play a pivotal role in equipping students with the skills required to thrive in the low-carbon economy.

The CGT project has been partly funded by Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA), providing £2.471 million via the Transforming Cities Fund and £400,000 from the Local Growth Fund, further to the £1.9 million package from Peterborough City Council via the Towns Fund.

Jointly funded by the Greater Lincolnshire LEP and Department for Education Post-16 Capital Funding, the Modern Methods of Construction Centre is now the primary learning facility for over 500 additional plumbing, carpentry, brickwork and electrical installation students, working to bridge the estimated 49,000 person skills shortage within the Eastern region.

University Centre Peterborough is launching a new engineering degree in September 2025, which will introduce students to cutting-edge technologies in energy engineering. The programme will include modules on renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, such as battery and hydrogen technology, both of which are critical to meeting the UK’s green energy needs.

IEG’s collective efforts across Peterborough College, Stamford College, and University Centre Peterborough ensure that we are not only contributing to the UK’s sustainability goals but also empowering the next generation of professionals to lead the way in green industries.
