Inspire Education Group (IEG) is celebrating Green Careers Week 2026 (2–6 November), highlighting how education, investment and industry partnerships are helping prepare the next generation for careers in a more sustainable economy.
Across Peterborough College, Stamford College and University Centre Peterborough (UCP), students are developing skills relevant to renewable energy, sustainable construction, engineering and a growing range of industries supporting the UK's transition to net zero.
Investing in Green Skills
At Peterborough College, the £13.5 million Centre for Green Technology (CGT) provides specialist facilities supporting training in emerging technologies, including electric vehicle infrastructure and engineering.
Stamford College's Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) Centre introduces students to sustainable building practices, including solar panels, air-source heat pumps and innovative construction materials.
Meanwhile, UCP's engineering provision explores renewable energy and emerging energy storage technologies, helping students develop higher-level technical skills.
Green careers also extend beyond traditional technical subjects, with opportunities linked to conservation, environmental policy, community engagement and sustainable business practices.
Working with Industry
Throughout 2026, IEG has strengthened its engagement with employers and industry organisations to address workforce challenges and support future skills development.
This includes welcoming the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to the Centre for Green Technology to discuss skills shortages, retrofit and net-zero infrastructure, and partnering with The One Group to host a manufacturing roundtable exploring future workforce needs.
IEG also worked with Morgan Sindall Construction and the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority to deliver a Construction Internship Preparation Programme, supporting women into paid industry placements, including opportunities connected to renewable technologies.
At Stamford College, Business T Level students were also selected for the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee's Youth Engagement Programme, contributing young people's perspectives to discussions on environmental challenges.
Supporting a Sustainable Future
These activities reflect IEG's 2024–2030 Strategic Plan, Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Exceptional, and its commitment to Lead the Way in a Sustainable Future.
Throughout Green Careers Week, IEG will be showcasing the facilities, students and partnerships helping develop the skills needed for a greener future on all social media channels associated with the group.
