“Jobsmart has changed my life”: Dipti’s Success Story Shows Adult Learning in Action

Jobsmart at Peterborough College, part of Inspire Education Group (IEG), plays a key role in supporting local people into education, employment and sustainable careers. Through fully funded courses in areas such as construction, security, logistics and hospitality, alongside tailored employability support, Jobsmart is helping individuals gain the skills and confidence needed to move forward.

Rooted in the local community, Jobsmart works closely with partners, employers and regional initiatives to ensure learners are supported every step of the way - not just to gain qualifications, but to build confidence, independence and long-term opportunity.

Its impact has been recognised at both local and national level. Following a visit to the provision in 2025, Minister for Transformation Andrew Western said:

“Peterborough College is at the heart of its community and Jobsmart is a great example of making sure the next generation of local people have skills they need to succeed in life.”

Dipti’s journey is a powerful example of how adult learning can transform lives.

When she moved to the UK in 2012, she was starting again — but felt isolated and lacked confidence in herself and her English.

“Before I came to Jobsmart, I felt isolated in society and not confident in myself.”

After hearing about Jobsmart through a neighbour, she decided to take her first step.

From the moment she arrived, she experienced a welcoming and supportive environment that encouraged her to continue.

“Jobsmart never said no to me when I asked for help. They were really patient with me and supported me the whole way.”

Through Jobsmart, Dipti enrolled on English and NVQ courses, gaining not only qualifications but the confidence to explore her future. With support from the team, she attended open events, developed her understanding of different pathways and began working towards university.

“They told me to go to open events and helped me apply to university… they helped me meet the requirements and guided me the whole way.”

As her confidence grew, so did her independence and sense of belonging.

“I made more friends at Jobsmart, and I feel more independent, more confident and happier.”

Her progress has been recognised not just by herself, but by those around her.

“My neighbours, my church and my community are so surprised by my English skills. I feel so confident now.”

Today, Dipti is working as a Teaching Assistant in a local school, supporting others in their learning journeys. She is now preparing for her next step once again, applying for degree-level study this September.

Her journey has also created a ripple effect within her community.

“I would always recommend Jobsmart to people — I’m actually introducing one of my own neighbours.”

Jobsmart’s impact extends beyond individual success stories. As Andrew Pakes MP for Peterborough previously highlighted:

“By equipping individuals with practical skills and tailored support, Jobsmart is not only transforming lives but also directly addressing the workforce needs of our local economy.”

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority added:

“Jobsmart is making a real difference by helping local people gain the skills and qualifications they need to move into meaningful employment… By working together with education providers, employers, and government, we can create clear pathways into secure, well-paid jobs.”

Dipti’s story shows the real impact of adult learning — building confidence, opening doors and creating new opportunities for the future.

“Jobsmart has changed my life — I feel 100% confident in my abilities now”, Dipti said.
