Stamford College, part of Inspire Education Group, has been selected as one of six schools and colleges from across the UK to have been selected to take part in the House of Lords’ Environment and Climate Change Committee’s Youth Engagement Programme.
During the programme, students from the Business Leadership and Management T Level will feed into the Committee’s current inquiry into drought preparedness and meet with committee Members in Parliament to discuss the inquiry and other environmental issues that are important to them and their community.
This achievement reflects the high quality of Stamford College and Inspire Education Group’s T Level provision. The cohort was selected through a competitive national process, demonstrating confidence in IEG’s ability to develop skilled, informed and future-ready students through a curriculum that equips learners with the knowledge, leadership skills and environmental awareness needed to support national priorities, including the UK’s green agenda, while preparing them for impactful careers and active participation in shaping the future economy.
Now in its fourth year, the Youth Engagement Programme is an opportunity for young people to share their views on environmental and climate change issues that directly impact them. The programme also provides the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee with a different perspective on the key issues they investigate.
Students will also discover the wider role the House of Lords has in the passing of laws, holding the government to account and making recommendations to the government on a range of topics.
Baroness Sheehan, Chair of the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee, said, “I was very impressed with the high standard of application I received from Stamford College. I look forward to meeting and working with the students over the duration of the programme.” She added, “They will play a vital role in informing the committee on the really important issue of drought preparedness and wider environmental issues that are important to them.”
Kai Nevins, T Level Management student, said, “I feel really excited and privileged to have the opportunity to work on a House of Lords project. It’s a great experience and something I’m proud to be involved in.”
Thomas Wheatley, another student from the T Level group, said, “This is an eye-opening experience into how a key component of the British political system works.”
Stamford College would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Lords Environment and Climate Change Youth Committee for providing this vital opportunity. By opening their doors to our students, they are playing a crucial role in shaping the next generation of professionals.
