University Centre Peterborough Celebrates Graduation Ceremony at Peterborough Cathedral

University Centre Peterborough (UCP) marked a momentous occasion as students gathered to celebrate their academic achievements at the historic Peterborough Cathedral.

The graduation ceremony was a celebration of hard work and dedication, showcasing the remarkable success of UCP’s students and academic staff. The cohort of over 200 students that received their awards studied a wide variety of degree subjects, including Business Management, Therapeutic Counselling, Criminology and Sport and Forensics.

Many graduates have already secured full-time employment in their chosen careers, whilst others are pursuing work experience in a relevant field, or are continuing their studies with a Masters degree. Amaan Joondan, who graduated with a First Class Honours in BSc (Hons) Business Management with Marketing, was full of positive words for the ceremony, saying, “It was the perfect way to celebrate our successes and how much we’ve all grown since we started our degrees. UCP has really changed me as a person and I’ll forever be grateful.”

The UCP graduation comes after a series of recent positive news for the University Centre. This includes remarkable success in the latest round of the National Student Survey (NSS) and the momentous academic accomplishment of an impressive 80%* of its students achieving a 2:1 degree classification or higher.

The ceremony was marked with a procession that led the way from the New Theatre to the historic Peterborough Cathedral. As the graduates and dignitaries processed, a resounding fanfare filled the air, setting the stage for a truly special event. The congregation stood in unison, as graduates entered the venue and the platform party took their places. The Dean of Peterborough Cathedral, addressed all graduates and guests, expressing warm regards to all in attendance and highlighted UCP’s notable achievements in the past year.

Liz Knight, Academic Director of UCP and Professor Sir Les Ebdon, Chair of the Higher Education Council delivered an inspirational address that expressed the significance of this milestone for the graduates. Addressing graduates from all faculties, Professor Sir Les Ebdon described the graduation as “a celebration of the fruits of your hard work”. The highlight of the ceremony then came as the Higher Education Managers proudly presented the graduates, who walked across the platform to collect their scrolls. Each scroll symbolised a celebration of hard work, dedication, and personal growth.

In closing, Liz Knight, Academic Director of UCP, delivered a closing address, reiterating UCP’s commitment to nurturing excellence in Higher Education. As the ceremony concluded, graduates and their guests were treated to refreshments and sweet treats, providing an opportunity to celebrate and reminisce about their time at UCP.

Footage of the ceremony is available on University Centre Peterborough’s official Facebook page.
