IEG Lecturer, Bhagya Manjaree, to Present at International Commonwealth Webinar

Inspire Education Group is proud to celebrate the international recognition of Bhagya Manjaree Hewa Siliyange, Lecturer in Science, who has been invited to present at a global Development in Action webinar this month as a Commonwealth Alumnus.

Bhagya will lead a session titled “Sustainable education reform in complex systems: reflections from a global perspective,” bringing together an international audience to explore how education systems across the Commonwealth are responding to rapid technological transformation, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the widening gap between education and employment.

The webinar will examine why, despite ambitious policy-level reforms, progress in classroom practice often remains uneven. Using a systems-based perspective, Bhagya will explore how sustainable education reform depends on alignment across policy design, assessment structures, institutional capacity, cultural context, and professional learning environments.

Drawing on research-informed insights — including reflections from Sri Lanka — she will highlight how complex system dynamics shape reform trajectories. The session will also introduce a conceptual framework positioning teacher professional capacity as a stabilising force in long-term reform, alongside exploring the role of collaborative professional learning and international knowledge exchange.

The webinar forms part of the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission’s development theme, Access, Inclusion and Opportunity, and will encourage participants to consider how education systems can move beyond implementation towards long-term reform stewardship.

Bhagya brings significant international expertise to this work. She leads a global educator knowledge exchange pilot initiative focused on reciprocal capacity-building across diverse education systems, and has held senior academic leadership roles in both national and international contexts, including within the UK.

She is a matriculated member of Homerton College, Cambridge, where she mentors postgraduate students on the Homerton Changemakers Programme. Bhagya also serves as an Advisory Panel Member for the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (2023–2027), contributes to UNESCO’s International Institute for Educational Planning (IIEP) strategic debates, and is a venture review panellist for innovation initiatives at the Imperial College London Innovation Hub.

A 2021 Commonwealth Split-site Scholar from Sri Lanka, Bhagya is currently completing her PhD in Science Education at the University of Cambridge and the University of Colombo.

This opportunity highlights the global impact of Inspire Education Group’s staff, showcasing the expertise and thought leadership within the organisation on an international stage.
